Don't start your search for a digital camera before you have resolved the Megapixel Myth.

As long as you don't need seriously high-resolution photos, video capture, or machine-gun-fast sports shooting, the Nikon D700 has everything you need in a pro full-frame camera for a reasonable price.

Newer generations of digital cameras and camcorders, which almost always have more megapixels or higher resolutions, still tend to produce great output. But there is more to it than that. Understanding some of the basics will make you a more informed consumer.

It wasn't too long ago that the first high-definition camcorder went on the market with a $3,500 price tag. Early adopters - those guys who have to be first in line for all things electronic (and, yes, they are mostly guys) - just couldn't buy 'em fast enough.
